Hotel Derek to receive makeover

The 312-room Hotel Derek, located in Houston's Galleria district, will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation of its guestrooms, suites, meeting rooms and public spaces over the next three months, it was recently announced.

Working with luxury hotel, resort and restaurant design firm Flick-Mars, Hotel Derek will add colors, textured fabrics and natural materials to reflect its surroundings, according to a press release.

"Hotel Derek's design and ambience will reflect a sense of southern hospitality with an edge," said Shawn Gracey, hotel general manager, in the release. "The new Hotel Derek will reflect a Texas-chic look and feel with very unique touch points and experiences for our guests."

The restoration and renovation project is expected to be completed in March 2013.

Hotel Derek is managed by Destination Hotels and Resorts, the nation's fourth-largest hospitality management company. It operates 40 independent, luxury and upscale hotels, resorts and golf clubs, including Austin's Driskill Hotel.
