Bond program to include phones for classrooms
Local voters approved a bond Tuesday, Nov. 6 that will equip every classroom in the Houston Independent School District with telephones.
The bond, which included $100 for technology upgrades in the schools, will pay for voice-over-internet phones and improve wireless access at the district's 279 campuses, according to a HISD news release.
According to the release, the phones will allow teachers to more readily reach out to administrators, colleagues and parents.
The school is currently analyzing how it employs technology, including online textbooks, tablets and other devices, to improve teaching methods and expand students' learning experiences in the classroom.
Interested technology suppliers are invited to submit proposals by early December for voice-over-internet phones, cabling, internet connectivity and video services, according to the release.
