Twain Elementary holds dedication ceremony for new track
Students and staff members of Twain Elementary School and the Houston Independent School District held a ribbon cutting and dedication on Friday, Oct. 12 for the school's new track.
The running track encircles the athletic field and playground, and lies just inside the campus perimeter at the corner of Braes and Aberdeen, according to a press release.
"Today is the day," Twain Principal Melissa Patin said in the release. "Our children will finally be able to enjoy our new playground and track. This is a sterling example of what we can accomplish when we work together."
Members of the school's strings orchestra provided background music for the celebration, and the entire student body marched around the track in a parade of grades led by the tiger mascot.
"This project has been on our radar for many years," PTO President Sydni Mossman said in the release. "It was in the original plans of the new school."
Special guests at the dedication included Mike Lunceford, HISD board of education member; Willie Burroughs, district special projects director; and Vincent Jacobs, Isani Consultants engineering manager. Several school and community partners were also in attendance.
Twain Elementary School is located 7500 Braes Blvd., Houston.
