McDonald's USA to add calorie counts to menu boards

McDonald's announced Sept. 12 that it's adding calorie counts to the items on its restaurant and drive-thru menu boards to help customers make better nutrition choices.

In addition to the labels, McDonald's is publishing its first nutrition progress report. It is also making changes to its menu that take into account the U.S. Department of Agriculture's dietary guidelines. The changes include more fruit and vegetable options, more side options for Happy Meals, the McWrap and more breakfast choices.

"We recognize customers want to know more about the nutrition content of the food and beverages they order," Nelly Quijano, McDonald's Operators Association of Greater Houston co-op president, said in a press release. "We are pleased to add to the ways we make nutrition information available to our customers and employees in Houston and throughout the U.S."
