Pearland defeats Madison in high school opener
Pearland gave the Butler Stadium fans a reason to leave depressed after the opening high school football game of the season, keeping home team Madison from scoring a touchdown, and winning 33-3 on Friday, Aug. 31. Coach Tony Heath saw his team take control early, jumping to a 20-3 halftime lead. Jacob Garner delivered TD passes to Andrew Mapps and Zachery Boegler, while JacColbie Butler ran one in to account for the early scores. Overall, Garner was 11-14 in the air, accounting for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Butler was the Oilers' lone rusher for the team, taking the ball 16 times for 43 yards. Adam Saunders led the receiving corpse with four receptions for 87 yards. Michael Winstead chipped in two field goals with 24- and 25-yard kicks. The Mustangs will look to keep the winning going when they visit Kempner on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Madison fell to 0-1 and look to turn things around for coach Pat Reinecke when it visits Bush on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. Madison quarterback Dante Arsenaux could muster only 40 yards on 4-8 passing. Darrah Foreman was the leading rusher with 43 yards on 11 attemps. On defense, Jered Wiltz grabbed an interception.
