South Freeway accident leads to a felony racing charge
Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old driver in connection with a July 23 traffic accident that left one man critically injured.
Jerry Scott Quiroa, 18, is charged with felony racing on a highway after he allegedly raced the driver of a blue Chevrolet Impala in the 6200 block of South Freeway, according to a Houston Police Department news release.
Police say Quiroa, who was in a white Honda Civic, and the other driver weaved in and out of traffic while racing north on South Freeway until they crashed into each other at approximately 8:45 p.m. near the MacGregor exit.
The Impala reportedly burst into flames, injuring the driver, after it wrecked into the MacGregor Street overpass, slid down and collided with the guardrail.
Police arrived and arrested an uninjured Quiroa at the accident scene. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to the release.
