HISD students selected as National Merit Scholarship winners
Thirty-two students from the Houston Independent School District were selected as National Merit Scholarship winners for 2012.
Bellaire High School National Merit Scholarship winners include: Mitchell A. Sawyer, Olivia Arena, Dana Felberg, Meghana Golla, Weiting Ji, Amy Jiang, Joseph Lewis, Carrie Li, Natalia Majewska, Denes Marton, Ankeet Mutha, David Williams, John Williams, Daniel Yun, Ni Zhan and Zhongmin Zhang.
National Merit Scholarship winners from Carnegie Vanguard High School include: Jonas A. Actor and Yihui Yang.
Lamar High School National Merit Scholarship winners include: Hader Ali and Lavanya Sunder.
National Merit Scholarship winners from Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions include: Victor S. Prieto, Frederick D. Vu, Lawrence Y. Zhu, Adriana Pantazis and Jincy Varughese.
High School for the Performing and Visual Arts student Spencer Shen also received a National Merit Scholarship.
In order to be eligible to receive a National Merit Scholarship, students must have an outstanding academic record, be actively involved in their school and community and have a recommendation from a high school official.
