Woman, unborn twins die, Bellaire physician sued
A family is suing after a loved one and her unborn twins died at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Shirley Lenoir, individually and on behalf of the estate of Shana Lenoir, and Christopher McKnight filed a lawsuit June 20 against U.T. Physicians and Bellaire medical professionals Angela Mathews, Leah Ann Gonski Marino and Dr. Jaou-Chen Huang, citing medical negligence and gross negligence.
Lenoir and McKnight say April 9, 2010, medics rushed Shana Lenoir, pregnant with twins, to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The deaths followed Lenoir's treatment by second-year medical resident Gonski Marino, who wrongly prescribed Lenoir weekly progesterone injections for her pregnancy, the brief alleges.
McKnight says he called an ambulance in the early hours of April 9, 2010, after witnessing Lenoir, who was between 32 and 35 weeks pregnant, gasping for breath. She reportedly died shortly thereafter.
The estate is seeking damages and court costs. It is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Joseph Gourrier.
