Police investigate fatal traffic crash

A 30-year-old Houston woman died after a car struck her as she tried to cross the intersection of Main and Cambridge streets in Houston at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, according to a Houston Police press release.

The woman's identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

As the woman crossed the street, a gray Acura MDX traveling south at 6300 Main St. was going through a green light. A vehicle alongside the Acura stopped in the middle of the intersection, and the Acura continued forward and struck the pregnant woman. The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where the child was delivered by emergency surgery and remains in critical condition. The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Acura driver was questioned and released at the crash site. The police investigation into the crash continues.
