Concrete work is under way on Richmond

Construction crews have started concrete preparation on Richmond Avenue and are continuing work on storm-drain installations.

Improvements are being made on the drainage capacity between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway to move water south to Braes Bayou. This project will require a six-foot storm drain to be installed to provide underground water capacity and upgraded lateral systems and inlets on Eastside and Audley.

This project should resolve any serious flooding issues along Richmond Avenue.

As crews prepare to lay concrete on these roads, traffic will remain unchanged for the next several weeks. Two westbound lanes will split around the construction area and the center median. The left westbound lane will be transitioned to the south side of the median, and the right lane will be maintained along the northern curb line.

Progress has been made around the intersection of Eastside and Richmond with the installation of a junction box tying the two lanes together. Work will continue through the next week, and traffic will be shifted at this intersection to straddle the construction area. The Eastside intersection will not be available for north/south through traffic. Left turns from Richmond onto Eastside will be unavailable until construction is complete.

Minor water line construction along Norfolk, Eastside and Richmond might be necessary as well.

Lateral line work on Audley north of Richmond will also be taking place, during which there will be just enough room for two-way traffic to pass. Motorists are asked to stay to the right as they pass the construction area to allow opposite-flowing traffic to proceed. No street parking will be available along the construction zone.
