Bellaire City Council votes against new disc golf course
Bellaire City Council recently voted against a new six-hole disc golf course in Bellaire Town Square.
The proposal received from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission that wanted to utilize the remainder of the $10,000 Small Communities Grant was turned down on May 21.
The item was submitted and presented by Parks and Recreation Director Jane L. Dembaski on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Councilman Corbett Daniel Parker did not accept the recommendation, and Councilman Andrew S. Friedberg seconded the motion.
Many City Council members expressed specific safety concerns, and Dembaski returned to the Advisory Board, which voted to postpone the item so it could discuss the council's comments. The board is considering resubmitting its plan for one of the city's other parks.
