The Houston Zoo now offers the new Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park, located in a landscaped setting just inside the Houston Zoo’s Medical Center admission gate.

The park is near the Wildlife Carousel and Twiga Terrace in the African Forest. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It is free with paid zoo admission. The park boasts 37 water play features, including a colorful sea serpent, a tall fill-and-spill water tree and a variety of water weavers, fountains, jets and misters.

The Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park has incorporated into its customized design a seating wall, which allows parents and grandparents to monitor their children. Its green design allows water features to be activated only when a guest steps on one of two touch sensors. When they’re not in use, water features remain in sleep mode, which conserves not only water but also electricity.

The Houston Zoo was founded in 1922. For information, call 713-533-6713 or go to houstonzoo.org.
