HISD schools rank high in 2012 state evaluation
According to the 2012 Texas Public School Rankings, Houston Independent School District contains the top three elementary, middle and high schools in the eight-county regions.
These rankings included schools from 58 different districts, as well as charter schools.
According to the press release, HISD schools have had high ratings since the organization started issuing rankings in 2006.
In addition to this honor, HISD schools were also selected as one of four national finalists for the county's most prestigious public education award from the Broad Prize for Urban Education. The district received this honor due to the strong academic performance of students since 2008.
Superintendent Terry Grier said in a press release, "HISD has a much-deserved reputation for offering some of the best schools in America. These recent accolades show that our work to replicate this excellence in more schools serving neighborhoods throughout Houston is working."
