Shlenker School donates new bears for Houston Fire Department
Shlenker School second-graders donated more than 300 new teddy bears to the Houston Fire Department on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
For more than a decade, the second-grade students at the Shlenker School have held an annual read-a-thon to raise money for the donation. This year the students read more than 1,400 books to raise the money to purchase the bears from the Build-A-Bear Workshop.
The bears are placed in emergency medical response units and are used to comfort children in emergencies and to reassure them that emergency personnel are there to help. Each bear comes with a prayer inside.
The Shlenker School is located at 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd. in Houston. For more information, visit theshlenkerschool.org.
