Brian David Friday went 1 for 2 and scored a run in the Indianapolis Indians's 16-0 loss to the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday. Friday graduated from Bellaire Episcopal High School.

A 2004 graduate of Bellaire Episcopal, Friday accepted a baseball scholarship at Rice University. He played three seasons (2005 to 2007) for the Owls ending his college career with a .327 batting average, 55 doubles, 40 stolen bases and 98 RBIs. Friday was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round (98th overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. He quickly advanced through the Pirates' system making it to Triple-A Indianapolis of the International League early in the 2010 season, his second full year of professional baseball. Entering 2011, Friday was a career .272 minor league hitter with 73 doubles, 14 triples, 14 home runs, 189 runs scored and 123 RBIs in 345 games. He was born Dec. 16, 1985 in Houston. Read more...

Houston Police Department collision call log, June 12

The Houston Police Department received 169 calls reporting collisions on June 12. These included the following nearby incidents:

A minor collision involving a person who failed to stop and a give information was reported at 5090 Beechnut St. H at 12:27 p.m. Houston police were dispatched at 12:39 p.m. and arrived at 12:46 p.m. It took until 2:23 p.m. to clear the collision. The incident number is 074678512.

At 8:12 p.m., a non-fatal major collision was reported at 232 Meyerland Plaza. Houston police arrived at 3:32 p.m. The collision was cleared by 4:48 p.m. The incident number is 074726412.

A minor collision was reported at 5330 Braeswood Blvd. at 3:26 p.m. Houston police were dispatched at 3:40 p.m. and arrived at 3:56 p.m. It took until 4:34 p.m. to clear the collision. The incident number is 074753312.

At 8:12 p.m., a minor accident causing a disturbance was reported at 5700 Bissonnet St. Houston police arrived at 6:39 p.m. The collision was cleared by 6:55 p.m. The incident number is 074835112.

Dennis Demoin Putman was released from custody, according to the Harris County Sheriff‘s Office. Putman is listed as living at 5500 N Braeswood in Houston. Bond for Mr. Putman was set at $50,000. The Montgomery County Clerk reported the following criminal misdemeanor cases during the week of June 10:

Christopher Bheaitheab Biyela, 46, of Houston, was charged with fleeing a police officer June 14.

Biyela was arrested on June 12 by the SHPD.

AAAA Discount Bail Bonds posted a $500 bond on June 13.

Alfonso Perez, 22, of Houston, plead guilty to charges of theft of property ($500 to $1,500). His defense attorney is Jack McCormick.

Perez was arrested on June 10 by the Harris County Police Department. Police reported one victim.

On June 22, the defendant received a straight jail sentence.

Eduardo Perez, 19, of Houston, plead guilty to charges of theft of property ($500 to $1,500). His defense attorney is Jack McCormick.

Dane Alan Butterfield, 24, of Houston, was charged with driving while intoxicated June 29.

Raymond Ortega Jr., 36, of Houston, was charged with driving while intoxicated July 18.

Ortega was arrested on June 16 by the Department of Public Safety.

Melvin James Matthews, 51, of Houston, was charged with deadly conduct July 25.

Matthews was arrested on June 13 by the Department of Public Safety. Police reported one victim.

Terry Lynn Milo, 50, of Houston, was charged with 6701-60 unsafe lane change Jan. 23. His defense attorney is Charles French.
