Walker is a 2004 graduate of Bellaire High School and played three seasons of college baseball (2005 to 2007) at Texas Christian University before signing professionally on June 26, 2007 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who selected him in the 5th round (158th overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. At TCU, Walker batted .310 as a freshman, 2005, with 11 homers and 35 RBIs to earned second-team freshman all-America honors at catcher. He was a Mountain West Conference all-star at catcher during his sophomore campaign, 2006, when he hit .304 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs. Walker repeated as a MWC all-star during his junior season, 2007, batting .328 with 21 doubles, 12 home runs and 58 RBIs. During his professional career, Walker appeared in 184 games entering the 2011 season. He was born Jan. 22, 1986 in Houston.
