College Baseball: Wes Mercurio, Baylor University
Wes Mercurio went 0 for 2 in Baylor University's 11-2 loss to Kansas State on Thursday. Mercurio graduated from Bellaire High School.
Mercurio is a 2008 graduate of Bellaire High School where he was a two-year letter winner playing baseball for coach Rocky Manuel. During his two years at Bellaire the Cardinals posted a 71-12 record including a 39-win campaign during his senior 2007-2008 when the team advanced to the state semifinals. That year Mercurio batted .357 with six home runs 26 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He was selected a first-team District 20-5A and participated in the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Assocation All-Star Game. Mercurio was named an Under Armour preseason All-American and won the Ray Knoblauch Award given to the Bellaire senior who displays excellence on and off the diamond. As a junior 2006-2007 he helped Bellaire to a 32-3 record and a District 20-5A championship. Off the field Mercurio graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Born Oct. 23 1989 in London England he is the son of Jim and Deirdre Mercurio. He is a business major at Baylor.
